90th Anniversary Banquet held on the 9th of July at the HCG

About 70 people were present at the 90th anniversary banquet.  The Club President, in his tuxedo and top hat, with his wife greeted guests upon their arrival. With appetizers and drinks in hand, guests were able to view a visual history of the club, reminisce and socialize before the banquet.

Jeff St-Cyr, the Master of Ceremonies, invited the guests to find their places at their beautifully decorated tables, around 6:15 p.m.. After words of welcome, Jeff invited Hugo Rivet to say grace before guests feasted on the meal prepared by Rick’s Magic Touch. Needlesss to say no one left hungry.

After the meal, Jeff invited the Mayor of Temiskaming Shores, Mr. Carmen Kidd, to say a few words.  Mayor Kidd congratulated the HGC on its 90th anniversary and highlighted the HGC’s involvement with the Temiskaming community.  Then it was Mr Dan Cleroux, Mayor of Coleman Township, to underline the HGC’s contribution to the wellbeing of our community. He concluded with: “See you at the 100th!”

With a Powerpoint presentation in the background, Jeff then narrated a few anecdotes and stories of the HGC’s colourful history.  He reminded guests that the Haileybury Golf Club’s 150 members are priviledged to have such a scenic golf course and invited members and guests to continue to help in the improvement of the grounds.

The President, Jean-Pierre Rivet, concluded the evening with presentations of plaques to the two oldest members of the HGC: Mrs. Bette Campbell and Mr Bill Grozelle.  Accompanied by members of their respective families, both recipients thanked the HGC for this recognition. Bill (who served for 30 years as a HGC Director) thanked all the volunteers who give their time and expertise to make the HGC the most spectacular north of North Bay. The President then spoke passionately about his involvement and his love of this golf club.  Myra McCarthy, on behalf of the guests, thanked Jean-Pierre and all volunteers for the many hours of labour and love put into the HGC.

It was on the patio that most guest contined the festivities with picture taking, storytelling, remembering past members and events and enjoying the music provided by Lee Marshall.

It was a memorable evening and appreciation goes to the organisers of this very wonderful 90th anniversary.
